FIEL Houston was established in 2007 by the Espinosa family, after years of not finding a place that organically organized immigrant youth. FIEL started as a mutual Aid organization to assist other undocumented students navigate complex systems of Education.  During our beginning years, we advocated for just laws in the systems of immigration and education. After over a decade of advocating for laws, such as the DREAM Act, we were able to obtain Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2012, changing the lives of almost one million young immigrants.  After that Monumental feat, we responded to our community's needs and launched a legal clinic to help them navigate these new complex immigration systems. After some time, we began to work on other issues such as housing, disaster recovery, and civil rights. Now, almost two decades later, we are the largest immigrant-led civil rights organization in the state of Texas.
